"Stewed meat with fries! The idea alone makes us mouth watering! Delicious tender pieces of meat, a spicy sauce with beer and mustard. If you take the time to simmer your stew, you will be rewarded with a dish to lick your fingers."
Ingredients for Beef Stew with Mushrooms:
serves 4
- 4 lbs (1.8 Kg) boneless stew meat cut into 2-inch (5 cm) pieces
- 500 g ( 1,1lb) mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons oil
- brown beer
- 3 medium onions, chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 2 bottles (12 ounces each) Belgian brown beer
- 4 tbsp mustard
- 1 bay leaf
- 3 slices of bread
- salt and pepper to taste
- nutmeg
How do make Beef Stew with Mushrooms :
Heat up the oil in a pot and saute the beef cubes till they turn white and get a bit of brownish colour as well.
Work in batches so as not to crowd the beef cubes, or they will steam instead of sauté. Add 1 tablespoon of butter, if necessary.
Remove the beef cubes out and set aside.
In the frying pan used to brown the beef braise the chopped onions in it until they get a nice golden brown colour.
Add the beef cubes and let simmer in it while adding some salt and ground black pepper, the bay leaf
Cover with enough brown beer and water so that you can easily stir them in the pot. and let it simmer on low heat for a while.
Cut the crusts off the bread and spread a layer of mustard on the bread and add them.
When the meat is half-cooked (approx. in 1,5 hour) add some more salt if necessary .
Stir frequently and make sure they are well cooked.
Let it cook on low heat until the meat is very tender.
Add the mushrooms and simmer until heated through, 5 minutes.
You can remove the lid of the pan if you want the stovery to thicken.
Enjoy!
